District Heights resident Roniyah Thomas has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses following a violent attack last month, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.

Officers responded to the intersection of South Park Avenue and The Hills Plaza around 7:42 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, officials said.

Officers immediately applied a tourniquet before the victim was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives determined that the victim was standing outside his gray 2023 Subaru when an armed suspect approached and demanded his keys.

When the victim refused, the suspect shot him and ran off, police said.

Investigators identified Thomas as the suspect and obtained a warrant for her arrest on March 10.

She was charged with:

  • Attempted murder;
  • First-degree assault;
  • Attempted carjacking.

She was taken into custody at her home in District Heights on Thursday, March 13, and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where she awaits a bond hearing.
